The Slovak Danube cycling route II. leads from Bratislava alongside the Danube and then through south-west Slovakia with a thermal bath, botanical garden and ends in Topoľčianky - the summer residence of Czechoslovak presidents.
PROPOSED ITINERARY
1st Day: Arrival in Bratislava, accommodation (1 night)
We are able to provide transfer to your hotel from Bratislava or Vienna airport.
2nd Day: Bratislava (1 night) - Gabčíkovo (1 night), 58 km
The route leads from the right bank of Danube river in Bratislava - Petržalka and follows the way downstream with secluded places housing plenty of water birds.
This bike trail passes lakes with crystalline water ideal for summer swimming. The tour will enable you to see the gallery of modern art Danubiana and remains of the Roman military camp Gerulata.
Attraction
Gerulata Museum in Rusovce, a small village on the Danube that once was part of the Roman fortification system of Limes Romanus province Panonia. The Romans built a military settlement here, and the museum shows artifacts from that era.
3rd Day: Gabčíkovo - Komárno (1 night), 60 km
The tour continues on a good track with nice view of several branches of the Danube, and on the way you may taste some of the local fish specialities.
Attraction
Water Tower in Komárno.
Fortress in Komárno - the biggest and strongest fortification system against Turkish raids and against Napoleon in the former Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.
Historical centre in Komárno provides a suitable place to relax.
4th Day: Komárno - Radava (1 night), 74 km
The road leads through regional lowlands with its agricultural fields to an agropension near the village of Radava. The pension offers excellent conditions for taking a rest.
Attraction
Discover the Magic of the Dead Sea - the thermal water in Podhajská is of a similar composition as that of the Dead Sea.
Wine tasting at the agrofarm.
This is beautiful rolling country-side with vast fields and woods.
5th Day: Radava - Topoľčianky (1 night), 52 km
The tour crosses a swamp reserve in Žitavce which is known for its preserved species.
You have an opportunity to see the real pearls of Topoľčianky region such as Mlyňany Arboretum, the National Stud Farm with its museum of horses and an unique reserve of the European Bison.
Attraction
Topoľčianky castle - former summer residence of Habsburg royal dynasty and presidents of former Czechoslovakia.
The tourist path from the castle leads through forests to the ruins of the medieval royal fortress Hrušov.
National Stud Farm (Národný žrebčín Topoľčianky) is the only place in Europe where four different breeds of horses (Arabian Thoroughbred, Lippizaner, Hucul and Slovak Warmblood) are raised.
Arborétum Mlyňany, as a Garden of Eden with its rare collection of more than 2500 spieces and varieties of trees, plants and flowers.
There is a possibility to make an excursion to a wine producer in Topoľčianky to taste regional wines.
6th Day: Departure from Topoľčianky
We are able to provide transfer from Topoľčianky to Bratislava, Vienna or Budapest airport.
