Unesco and Gothic
For a small country, Slovakia has a very high density of natural and historical monuments protected by Unesco.
Some of these monuments coincide with the so-called Gothical route, in the east of Slovakia, with many castles, ecclasiastic buildings and old serf villages.

Day 1: Bratislava
Arrival at Bratislava (transfer from Bratislava or Vienna airport to the hotel).
Guided tour of the old town (2 hours), visit of St. Martin’s Cathedral.
Attraction
St. Martin's Cathedral - a coronation place of rulers of the Habsburg empire.
Bratislava Castle - a former residence of Hungarian rulers including King Sigismund of Luxembourg who was elected as Holy Roman Emperor.
Day 2: Bratislava – Devín Castle - Bratislava
Trip to Devín Castle, free time.
Attraction
Devín Castle - strategic fortress situated on a cliff above the rivers Danube and Morava with its proud view far over the Slovak and Austrian border.
Day 3: Bratislava - Banská Štiavnica (Unesco) - Banská Bystrica
Sightseeing of historical Banská Štiavnica, visit of Old Castle, arrival at Banská Bystrica.
Attraction
Banská Štiavnica (Unesco) - in the 18th cent. the town became the center of mining science and technology development in Europe.
Main sights of Banská Štiavnica - New Castle, Old Castle, historical square with the highest plague pillar of the world, underground mine-shafts.
Day 4: Banská Bystrica – Vlkolínec (Unesco) - Levoča
Sightseeing of Banská Bystrica, visit of village Vlkolínec, arrival at Levoča.
Attraction
Banská Bystrica - old mining town called "Copper Bystrica" as it became a significant producer of copper in the 15th cent.
Vlkolínec (Unesco) - this monument reserve of folk architecture represents an unique collection of original houses which are still inhabited.
Day 5: Levoča – Spiš. Kapitula (Unesco) – Spiš. hrad Castle (Unesco) - Levoča
Sightseeing of Levoča with its Gothic church of St. Jacob, excursion to castle Spišský hrad and Spišská Kapitula.
Attraction
The Gothic church of St. Jacob in Levoča with the highest wooden altar in the world (18.6 m high), made by the greatest mediaeval artist of Slovakia, Master Pavol from Levoča.
The castle Spišský hrad (Unesco) is one of the largest in Central-Europe, and was center of worldly rulers, forming a harmonical unity with Spišská Kapitula (Unesco), the ecclesiastical seat, and Spišské Podhradie, the village of the serfs.
Day 6: Levoča – Bratislava/Vienna
Depart from hotel to airport in Bratislava or Vienna.
