The Devín Castle, known since the 9th century, is now considered Slovak cultural monument and symbol of glorious Slovak history.
The castle looms on a cliff above the rivers Danube and Morava, on an altitude of 212 m.
During the historical period of Great Moravia the castle has been used as a frontier fortress. In 1809 it was blown up by the armies of Napoleon.
At present, around and inside the castle there are archeological exhibitions visited every year by many tourists from all around the world.
