Bird Watching - the Great Bustard Otis Tarda
The Great Bustard appears near Bratislava, one of only 4 regions in the world, on the borders of Austria, Slovakia and Hungary, in Sysľovské polia. Nowadays in Slovakia this is protected bird territory, and protected territory in Austria and Hungary. The name originates from the gopher, who lived here until 150 years ago.
This is now the kingdom of the biggest flying bird in the world, the Great Bustard. The male weighs up to 20 kilos and easily gets off the ground. Every year these birds gather in groups in order to live through the winter. In spring they fly back north to build their nests. The watching is in combination with explanations.

Location
Bratislava - Rusovce. We start in Rusovce, from where we reach the protected bird territory at the common borders of Slovakia, Austria and Hungary; we will continue to the north to the border of Austria where there is an observation post of the National Nature Reserve.
